Taji Power Plant: 160MW Project Starts Production Near Baghdad

Iraq's Ministry of Electricity (MOE) has commissioned the new Taji power plant, located 20 kilometres outside of Baghdad. The 160MW plant is now set to begin production to meet critical demand on Iraq's struggling power grid. The additional power is claimed to be enough to meet the power demands of around 160,000 households. "The successful startup of Taji signals the first steps in fulfilling our continuous commitment to bring much-needed, reliable electricity to the people of Iraq," said Iraq's Minister of Electricity H.E. Karim Aftan Alijumaily

• The plant uses four Frame 6B Gas Turbines supplied by GE, who are also supplying similar equipment to two other Iraq power projects expected to come online this year. The company is also supplying the MOE with 56 gas turbines for projects across Iraq, adding 7,000 MW of power output to support the country’s infrastructure development.
  

Speaking on the development, GE Energy's CEO and president Joseph Anis said, "Working closely with the Ministry of Electricity, we have been successful in executing on our promise to deliver GE's advanced technology to ensure that additional power is made available to the Greater Baghdad area."
